  Some people think that any money government spent on artist (like musicians, poets and painters)can be better than other important things. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  Cultural and creative activities have been increasingly valued. Support including financing always comes from the government. However, there also some other essential sectors which are in need of state budgets to support, and I believe the government should balance the spending proportion in arts and other sectors, since both of them are equally important.

  The advent of arts given by musicians, poets and painters has considerably effect the city's cultural status, which normally costs amounts of state funding to maintain. Public places like squares and parks in cities have been decorated with famous paintings and sculptures by renowned artists. These art works represent culture, heritage and history. They serve to educate people about the city and act as landmarks for foreign tourists. Government and councils should pay creative artists to produce artistic work, since without the funding cities are likely to lose cultural advantages nationally and internationally.

  On the other hand, it is not saying that great proportion of state budgets should be allocated to artists better, because other sectors such as city's infrastructure and redevelopment also significant for the city to properly function. For example, in many regions of China where there are no modern roads for locals to travel and the public transport there is extremely basic. Funding should come in to modernize the transport infrastructure or facilities to better transform the economy with the final aim of raising basic living standards for the residents. Another reason for this is that artists have jobs like any other professional, and they should therefore earn their own living by selling their work. Financial support might generate income disparity between different jobs.

  In conclusion, financial support for artists to maintain a city's cultural status is reasonable but it does not have to deny the other pressing needs from alternative sectors. Government should give proper support for both concerns.
