Content Review Ambergris What is it and where does it come from? Ambergris is a solid, waxy, flammable substance of a dull grey or blackish color, produced in the digestive system of sperm whales.
Ambergris was used to perfume cosmetics in the days of ancient Mesopotamia and almost every civilization on the earth has a brush with ambergris. For centuries, this substance has also been used as flavoring for food.
Large numbers of works have claimed the amber and ambergris. In the 1851 whaling novel Moby-Dick, introduced the differences between them. With regard to the formation of ambergris. In the first place, sperm whales are rather partial to squid, but seemingly struggle to digest the hard beaks. When the irritants are vomited, then a substance called secretion is in touch with air.
In the century of 19th and 20th, since sperm whales are still the main source of ambergris as an endangered species, conservation groups have taken measures from its extinction. Artificial materials have been employed to make perfumes replacing the use of Ambergris.
