Some people think that secondary school students should study international news as a school subject, but others argue that it would be a waste of valuable school time. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Introduction
While it is true that the evolving social media landscape has boosted young people's news consumption, perspectives on whether or not to incorporate global news in secondary school curricula vary. I agree that there should be a place for it, despite the growing concern that it will fritter away valuable classroom time.

Growing up largely in the information age, when skewed and slanted reporting predominates, could have the paradoxical effect of robbing one of discernment and evidence-based reasoning, which could befall the young audience in a startling way. But this worry may be allayed by offering a course in world news, where students could learn how to verify a report's accuracy, how to assess the social and cultural impacts of the Covid-19 outbreak, and how to anticipate the coming butterfly effects of a downturn in the economy. This ability also prepares the path for future decision-making in either professional, academic or personal life.

However, there exists justification in doubting setting up international news as a discipline in middle school. Granted, most teenagers at such a young age could be intelligently and culturally unprepared to be exposed to intricate structure of global major topics, be nuances in multi-ethnicities, perpetuating injustice or entrenched bias. Besides, International news could barely be judged fairly, unlike physics and geometry, whose assessment is standardized and quantifiable, which ultimately undoes any discerniblebenefits. Even yet, these issues could be strategically handled by school effort.
