With the rapid development of communication technology such as smart phones, tablets and other mobile devices, some people think the advantages outweigh its disadvantages. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (2023/07/01)

Introduction
As communication technologies like smart phones and tablets have penetrated into every nook and cranny of the society, people always are phubbing regardless of occasions ranging from travelling on a train to dining at a restaurant, or even strolling. From my own perspective, such electric gadgets, in spite of some dark sides, have brought tangible boons in our daily lives.

First and foremost, it has become incredibly easy for people to contact each other electronically. Gone are the days when people could only communicate via fixed telephone or writing letters which took several days to reach others. People in modern age can stay connected with family members, friends and colleagues through instant messaging on various social apps to create a more closely-knit bond. Overseas students, for example, can video chat with parents to allay a sense of homesickness. Besides, these electronic devices, in large part, expand people’s social circle. Instead of being confined by physical factors such as geographical distance, people in digital era , due to the pervasive use of mobile phones and the Internet, can get acquainted with more like-minded people who are even living thousands of miles away.

Furthermore, communication technology has revolutionized various industries. It is the mobile apps and online courses that allow people accessible to an assortment of information we are intrigued by, thus augmenting their understanding of subjects and supplementing their studies. In terms of medical care, by remotely monitoring, breathtakingly demanding surgical operations can be successfully performed with pundits with penetrating views. Also, online commerce and transaction, with our job commitment being accomplished by sending emails, discussing business matters or conducting trade transactions online, allow users greater freedom and flexibility.

Notwithstanding technological stride,  never should we downplay the irreplaceability of face-to-face communication, which is gradually being vitiated by the undue use of the Internet and mobile phones. Without sincere eye-contact, warm handshake or other essential physical cues in front of our interlocutors, the bond of people is very hard to be tightened and the dearth of trust gradually emerges among people. By this token, digital interaction, depriving people of real face-to-face exchange, is prone to deteriorate  our  relationship with  beloved family members or neighbors in the vicinity, which will occasion human indifference  as well as  a strong feeling of alienation.
