新SAT語法考試中對語法考試知識點要打牢基礎，不能忽視這部分的備考。本文中小編將結合平行結構中難題針對“語法功能一致”這一原則進行分析。

新SAT文法考試中Standard English Conventions部分針對Parallel Structure平行結構考點提到“In other cases, the problem will be a lack of parallel structure— a failure to treat grammatically similar structures in a series in the same way”。從中不難發現，新SAT文法考試要求我們用相同的方式來處理一系列語法相似的結構。而這grammatically similar structures不僅要求語法形式一致，還要求語法功能一致。語法形式方面要求相同詞形對應相同詞形，短語對應短語，從句對應從句;同時，注意時態等保持一致。語法功能方面要求構成平行結構的詞語，短語或從句等在句中充當相似的語法功能。
大家可以先試做下面這個題目，再看題后的詳細分析：
例題 [可汗- Chemists for Clean Water- Q9]9 A career in water chemistry leading to exciting travel and teaching opportunities, and working to decontaminate water supplies around the world is a rewarding experience for those who undertake it.

此題很多考生很容易把“leading to exciting travel and teaching opportunities”和“working to decontaminate water supplies”當成并列結構，認為在語法形式上，兩個都是非謂語短語，符合語法形式一致原則。所以他們認為該句的句子主干是“A career is a rewarding experience for those who undertake it”，此題應該選A。
但是如果真是這樣就太天真呢。我們在理解平行結構的時候，不僅要注意語法形式一致，還要注意它們的語法功能是否一致。在該題中，照上述理解，大家思考一下，“leading to exciting travel and teaching opportunities”和“working to decontaminate water supplies”分別能對其前的“a career”進行修飾嗎?很快就會發現“a career”可以“leading to exciting travel and teaching opportunities”，但是絕不會“working to decontaminate water supplies”，因為“working to decontaminate water supplies致力于消除水污染”的動作發出者往往是“人”，而不是“物”。因此，該題中真正對“a career”進行修飾的是“leading to exciting travel and teaching opportunities”。
分析到這，估計有部分學生疑問“working to decontaminate water supplies”會不會和前面的“a career”并列呢?其實這個問題很簡單，從語法形式就會知道，“名詞”和“非謂語短語”不能構成平行結構;另外，從主謂一致也會發現，“a career and working to decontaminate water supplies”不可能用單數“is”，所以“working to decontaminate water supplies”不和“a career”并列。
既然如此，“working to decontaminate water supplies”只會和其后的“is a rewarding experience for those who undertake it”有關，構成一個獨立句子，“and”將其和前面并列構成平行結構。該題中 “a career in water chemistry leading to exciting travel and teaching opportunities”也應該是一個獨立句子，所以該題最終的正確答案應該是D。
在新SAT文法考試中碰見平行結構，強烈建議大家不能憑眼緣一廂情愿地只關注“語法形式一致”原則，也要關注“語法功能一致”原則。
