上一講(Analyze an Issue的第3講),我們學習了GRE寫作中Analyze an Issue Task中頗具難度的一種指令:
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
很明顯,這種指令與“是非判斷類”(詳 Analyze an Issue Task的第1、2講)的主要區別在于:
* 這個指令要求我們充分理解我們的敵方觀點并給出the most compelling reasons and/or examples。說明對敵方觀點的探討我們也要稍微真誠且深入一點,(注意到上面的reasons and examples了么),一定不能一筆帶過。
* 再者,在Issue Task中,敵方觀點是允許“詭辯”的,這取決于筆者的語言能力和思考高度。
什么意思呢?比如說題干中出現了明顯的比較概念,即天平孰重孰輕的問題。那么A>B的敵方觀點就可以是:A
最后一種不推薦大多數學生使用,因為其涉及到的philosophical thoughts不是30分鐘可以論證清楚的。簡言之,敵方觀點寫的好,issue高分無煩惱。
* 在認識到我們反方的想法和理由之后,以知己知彼的方式論證我們自己的立場;那么這一塊駁論的重要性就無需筆者贅述了。
記住,要點對點的去回擊,氣力消耗也要task-based and oriented.
我們以一個題目為例:
In most professions and academic fields, imagination is more important than knowledge.
就這個statement,發現了么,題干中內含的方程等式其實就是“A>B”。不容分說,筆者的立場為“不同意”。
于是乎,筆者的敵方觀點就可以是“知識與想象力同等重要”或“知識比想象力重要”。
筆者以后者思路做了個的梗概及大體寫作演示,如下:

I argue knowledge is more important than imagination in most walks of life and academic realms, because knowledge not only is the very prerequisite for developing imagination but also demonstrates the unique objectivity and inheritance that imagination does not possess.

論證思路:好好來扒一扒筆者的“敵方觀點”。
The claim of ‘imagination matters’ can indeed be justified. Since it helps people detach themselves from the shackles of reality and enables them to appreciate stuff from a completely brand-new perspective, it is more likely that people can make more breakthroughs in their own fields and professions owning to the injection of new blood and vigor. This is particularly conspicuous in the field of literature and art, and some examples are enumerated as follows. In Last Supper, without imagination, it would be hard and even impossible for Leonardo Da Vinci to vividly delineate the scene in which Jesus keeps unperturbed while Judas grows uneasy and scared when holding several coins earned at the price of being a traitor. Besides, in Matrix, had it not been for the incomparable imagination of the director, the macro-empire of Zion could not have been existed, and we of course cannot appreciate the surging movement of machine troops. Likewise, the field of literature and art also demands extraordinary imagination, among which Van Gogh and Claude Monet are renowned for their impressionism and mixture of light and shadow. This all mirrors the crucial role imagination plays.

反駁的時候要注意:要有針對性,要去針對敵方觀點在這個方面的漏洞去反駁。切記,考場上不用像筆者這樣去“堆”例子,因為例子太“吃”知識儲備了,你懂的。

論證思路:攻擊“敵方觀點”。
Although imagination depicts the unknown world for us, playing a decisive role in many fields, the origin of imagination is rooted in the existing knowledge. It is true that Da Vinci has never been to the scene, but his description of Jesus and his disciples is based on the study of mountains of materials such as the Holy Scripture. In the case of Matrix, no matter how fantastic the imagination is, if the film is to persuade audiences to believe that the plat may happen realistically, it is necessary to seek theoretical support from the existing physics knowledge units. For example, what can make a mountain suspend on the planet? The answer may be attributed to the loss of gravity or the magnetic field stuff. Even if Van Gogh succeeds at the first attempt in accomplishing the famous Starry Night, he must have experienced many nights when he carefully observes the track and shape of these stars, which are all the basic knowledge in this physical world. So, even in the field of literature and art, the existing knowledge is the cornerstone of all creation and the cradle of imagination.
